All about me
My name is Lisa Sheffer, and I love teaching music. I first started taking piano lessons from my mother when I was four years old and have been playing piano and singing ever since. In elementary school, I participated in my first choir and fell in love with singing. I continued making music throughout high school, including piano competitions, jazz band, classic and show choirs, and as many choral or solo festivals as I could manage. I knew I had found my passion; music gave and continues to give me life. Upon graduation from high school, I went to Utah State University and majored in Choral Education before taking a break to raise my family. I still continue to hone my musical skills by singing with the American Festival Chorus in Cache Valley, Utah and now teaching students here in my private studio.
I believe in a compassionate teaching approach. My first goal as a teacher is to help my students learn to love music. If the child feels pressured, angry, or frustrated, they are not loving music. Consequently, I use games, a variety of musical genres, and meditation techniques to help the students learn in an exciting and dynamic environment. My second goal is to help my students learn the art of practicing, so that they can maximize their precious time and have the tools they need to learn a foreign concept on their own. The skills we learn via piano or voice lessons can be implemented throughout a student’s life.
